The new Consortium Library boasts the latest technology, student-friendly space, and the world's furthest north Foucault pendulum. Besides meeting the academic and research needs of the students, staff, and faculty of UAA, Alaska Pacific University, and the general public, the Library shares space with the Alaska Resources Library and Information Services (ARLIS), the Alaska Moving Images Preservation Association (AMIPA), and general-use computer lab. In addition to housing over 1,000,000 volumes on site, the Consortium Library offers access to more than twenty thousand electronic journals, magazines, and newspapers. The Library?s digital resources can be accessed from the wireless network on campus, from home or from the dorms. Reference librarians are available nearly all of the hours the library is open and will reply to questions via email. The Consortium Library has state and federal government documents, collections of photographs and unpublished papers on Alaska and the Arctic, and an extensive specialized collection of health and medicine resources and publications. Books from other local libraries can be requested online for pick-up at the Consortium Library. The Library participates in a joint regional catalog with the Anchorage Municipal Libraries, the Anchorage Museum, and the UAA libraries at Mat-Su, Kodiak, Soldotna, Homer, and Valdez. Students can also request materials from libraries around the world through interlibrary loan at no charge. |
