The Ethel K. Smith Library provides access to a state-of-the-art online catalog, accessible from remote locations, offers a number of online reference databases, maintains an extensive ERIC Documents collection, and is a recognized depository for North Carolina State Documents. The Library's partnership in NCLive, a virtual library made available by the North Carolina State Library, provides students access to over 41,000 journal and newspaper titles. In addition, the Library's InterLibrary Loan Department allows students to research materials comparable to those of major state universities. Accessing all online database materials from remote locations is possible. Additional online subscriptions to database vendors such as ABC-CLIO, FirstSearch, Inet Library, LexisNexis Academic, MLA Bibliography, PsycArticles, Science Direct, and SportDISCUS supplement the Library's print holdings. The library has cultivated an extremely proactive Bibliographic Instruction component hosting 1,989 patrons in 98 presentations during the 2005 fiscal year. A typical week in Library services includes the following: 88 service hours, 2,033 gate count, and 51 reference transactions. The Academic Resource Center is located on the second floor of the Library and provides services and accommodations for students with special needs and hosts the campus peer tutoring program. |
