It is administered and maintained by eight full-time staff members. Special Collections houses one of the finest twentieth-century Southern literature collections in the United States and is the center for the study of the Fugitive and Agrarian groups. Other collections include Southern history since the Civil War, Southern Culture, Women's Issues, Civil Rights, Religion, and the Performing Arts. / The Television News Archive collection at Vanderbilt University is the world's most extensive and complete archive of television news. The collection holds more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts from the major U.S. national broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN, and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming including ABC's Nightline since 1989.

The Arthur J. Dyer Observatory is the principal astronomical facility of Vanderbilt University. It is located about ten miles south of the center of Nashville near Brentwood, Tennessee at an elevation of 1,131 feet above sea level on a sixteen-acre wooded hilltop.
