After discovering that an item you need (such as a book or journal) is not in the Alkek Library's collection, you may request a copy from another library via Inter Library Loan. Normal turnaround time for documents to be received by ILL is approximately 3 to 7 days while difficult to locate items may take longer. Museums
The Wittliff Gallery brings together a comprehensive range of work from the region that represents the history of photography from the 19th century to the present day, with an emphasis on contemporary imagery. Special Collections of the Alkek Library consists of the Southwestern Writers Collection, supporting the interests of both scholarly and non-academic communities, the department encourages access to its holdings with on-site research facilities, by hosting exhibitions, lectures, and other public events. Aquarena Center, an environmental education facility, offers a variety of exhibits focusing on the endangered species of the San Marcos Springs (185,000 visitors a year). The center show cases the Aquarium with an Endangered Secies Exhibit, the floating Wetlands Walkway, Glass Bottom Boat tours and Hillside Nature Trails. Texas State also supports the Center for Initiatives in Education, the Center for International Studies, the Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies, the Center for Nature and Heritage Tourism, the Center for Professional Development and Technology, the Center for the Study of the Southwest, and the Center for Texas Music History, all housed on campus.
